Awhina Motutere -Tauranga

Ngātahi is a term used to describe the unity of people working towards a specific goal or the implementation of a task with one common goal:

  • to share matauranga
  • to hold space for healing to happen and
  • to assist in the transformation of people’s lives through Rongoā Māori.

In the western world, Awhina is a medical herbalist and a naturopath. In Te Ao Māori, she is a Rongoā practitioner and a mirimiri / romiromi practitioner.

Her koro introduced her to Te Ao Rongoā and her father gave her his love of the natural world. He taught her about the importance of connection to the world around her.

Rongoā is a way of life as it is the embodiment of all that is. It is not just about trees and plants, it is a journey to self. It is an ever evolving road with many bumps and collisions. It is a self-reflective journey of personal transformation.

Without 'labels', Awhina is simply a lover of Papatuanuku, Te Wao Nui a Tane and her people.

Tena Koutou. Ko Puawai Pulu (nee Tawa-Butler) toku ingoa

He uri au nō nga waka Mataatua, Takitimu, Horouta me Tainui. Kei Maketu ahau e noho ana.

As a Rongoā Māori practitioner, I am blessed to share not only the whakapapa of the matauranga passed on to me, but also that which is yet to be learned.

The use of traditional heading practices can help to clear energetic blocks within the body, often resulting from physical and/or emotional trauma.

I am an active member of Nga Tohunga o Nga Hau e Wha and have many mentors throughout the motu. I attend multiple wananga throughout the year to further develop, learn and grow. And host wananga and community outreach within the Bay of Plenty area.

This powerful practice can bring release, clarity and a sense of balance.

Through kōrero/conversation, we will co-create a holistic hauora plan/wellness plan using tools such as: karakia – pastoral care, whakawhiti kōrero – conversation, pure, mirimiri, rongoa rakau – traditional plant medicine and much more

Happy Native Limited

Kia Ora!

We are two Bay of Plenty wāhine who have been working and developing in the Rongoā Māori realm for over twenty years. We have had brilliant teachers, kaumātua and whānau who have helped us contribute to the historical Rongoā pathway that has been carved out before us, and look to continue this for future generations. We have a passion for supporting others in the Rongoā space, making sure whoever shares with us feels safe and comfortable to do so and assure their confidentiality. We look forward to meeting you in our space!

In our work, we support people from all cultures by incorporating both traditional healing practices and modern therapeutic approaches. Care, kindness and safety are at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that those seeking wellbeing feel nurtured and supported. The knowledge passed down to us by our elders allows us to share and apply traditional Māori healing methods in a way that respects each person’s individual journey. By blending Māori Rongoā with aspects of Western medicine, we create a holistic approach that enables people to choose healing pathways that best align with their needs.

As part of Vitae, we focus on strengthening the mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing of those we work with. Having been taught by Tohunga and experts in the field, we have developed a deep understanding of traditional Māori medicines while also integrating contemporary methodologies. Through counselling, body therapies and cultural healing practices, we create a safe and empowering environment where people of all backgrounds can access healing and self-development tools. Our intention is not to speak from ego, but rather to share our skills openly and ensure that those who seek our support feel comfortable, protected and uplifted.

Mauri Ora Ronnie and Leah.
